Photobucket users please read
Just to make you aware, Photobucket has changed their policy and you now must pay to use their hosting services. I personally would be ok with paying a fee to host photos. I understand what a business model is. Unfortunately, this means users have to pay 400 a year to be able to host their images (at least that is what photobucket is wanting). IMO this is way too much. It seems they waited too long to implement a cost plan and now are asking for users to pay for hosting at a significant cost.

For many of us this becomes a real problem. i have 1000+ photos on photobucket. not only that, but the Photobucket website has been going down hill recently. This must be their last ditch effort to stay in business.

I suspect that Photobucket may not be around much longer. So if any of you have your photos on Photobucket You may want to look at your situation and at least make a backup copy of your photos somewhere if you only have them on Photobucket.

This also bothers me in the sense that there is a lot of information that is now lost due to this. A lot of people aren't going to bother paying or moving their photos and fixing their information. Forum are a great place to search the collective knowledge of people on specific topic. I hate to see it go this way.

Wow, so does that mean all the photos throughout the forum will no longer be visible again?

i'm working on moving a lot of them to the forum server that are used by how to threads and other things that are needed for the forum. if you see something that needs fixing let me know. i'm working on setting up a repository for images for the forum. I've setup my own website that houses my personal images that i had on photobucket and are in the process of fixing them.

it will be a drawn out process, manually fixing broken images. I will do my best to get it done quickly. in the next few weeks let me know if you run across any images that are broken. i'll be reviewing them to see if its necessary to host the images on the forum server. Personal images will not be considered at the moment. first thing we are focusing on is information directly related to information we provide in how to threads etc.

But to answer your question, the images can still be viewed but only if you navigate to the photobucket website or pay for their hosting package.

I suspect most people wont so i'm taking the initiative to pull back as much information as i can so that its not lost.

Dustin, how much would it cost to set up a hosting service for this site? I'd be willing to pitch in a little more if other supporting members will too. Just saying...I'll try to help.

we might be able to integrate it into one of the memberships. we discussed this briefly when the whole photobucket thing went down.

I will look at what we can do and the cost associated with it.

I have a cheap domain at namecheap. I thought I saw where their image hosting was reasonably priced. Failing that, a friend of my friend has a server here in Boise with a ~10Mbps up connection. He might be able to host the pics and he is a professional IT tech, I hear.
I'll ask my friend today. If this sounds good, plz PM me so I remember to follow up please.
