96 Honda Accord

Well I finally went and picked her up with a dolly right before Hurricane Matthew came through. Lots of trees to fall on the property it was on, and I didn't want to find out a tree had fallen on it before it ever left the property.

I paid $300. F22b with a 5 spd. Trans is good, body is good, interior is decent. All in all for a $300 car I'd say it's a 7 of 10. A steal.

It supposedly has a blown head gasket. Haven't had a chance to really do anything with it because of the storm. But when I got home from work last night, I put the jump box on it for shits and giggles. It started and I drove it. Albeit misfiring from the 2 inches of oil in the spark plug tubes. No coolant in oil, possible oil in coolant, but could be the head gasket sealer.

Exhaust is steamy, but doesn't smell of antifreeze, just smells rich like a normal startup.

I let it idle for 5 minutes before it finally stalled lol.

Obviously as any used $300 car, it needs some work. But still, only $300. If the block and head are warped, complete engine with 55k for only $300.

It's got 223xxx on the clock.

Can't wait to get started. This will be the daily so I can get some real work done to the Camaro.

After a wash here is what she looks like. Needs a little TLC, but not bad.

One of the first things I did was put a new battery in it. With a blown head gasket and spark plug tubes with 2 inches of oil in them, it runs!

Found that the exhaust manifold was leaking and found this upon further investigation under the shield.

5 snapped studs. Luckily 4 were protruding from the block so some PB blaster and vise grips did the trick on them. ANTI SIEZE!

4 new studs and an exhaust gasket later, the last stud is snapped off in the head. It's getting an engine so I'm only really doing little stuff.

I also cleaned the oil out of the spark plug tubes and found that one plug won't come out. Rtv'd the seals.

Still doesn't misfire, only throws an O2 code, and still chirps 2nd and 3rd.

Not bad for $300

Much more to come.

The two together

Sweet. its very nice to have a beater in while working on project cars. Especially if they are DD. i've always found it hard to do weekend mods and end up taking short cuts in order to get it back together before mondays. good luck. and it sounds like 300 well spent lol

Well here is the next piece.

The one spark plug in cylinder 4 stops coming out after about 6 or so turns. This with the single new plug in the glovebox means once that was discovered; they tightened it back down and left that plug alone.

So....

I'm getting another engine so I thought, what the hell let's get that plug out.

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...e55ec95301.jpg

4 ft pipe ftw. You can see this plug has been in there for at least 2 plug changes.

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...387d2485d7.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...38da10f2b6.jpg

It only pulled the top half of the threads out.

So what now? I had a set of new plugs, and found a use for that extra.

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...c64995537b.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...ac0c4e19ec.jpg

So I used the extra to make a thread cutting/cleaning plug. Put some anti seize on it to grab any shavings, ran it in, pulled it out, and a new plug went in and sealed without a problem.

PB Blaster, Freeze Off, and a few warming and cooling cycles helped.

You can see plug 3 looks a bit melted on the threads, so I can only imagine what I'll find when I get deep into this engine. I'm sacrificing it for the learning experience on the F22b engine. I've worked on one before, but now I can get as intimately familiar with it as I am my 660.

Stay tuned!

Working on some front end stuff now, like aligning the headlights and bumper properly.

well i can see from here that those headlights are a little out of alignment. :naughty:

wchiarizzio 10-20-2016 09:28 AM

If you look at the pic of the front a couple posts up, you can see the insides of the headlights are in further than the outsides.

Once I started pulling them out I saw why. The outsides of both headlight brackets are broken off. Along with both lower mount bolts gone. Corners are also pretty smashed up.

So I'm going with Smoked headlights, corners, and markers. All 3 DOT approved and only $130. New brackets attached to the headlights and new mounting hardware included.

Need a new front and rear bumper cover and driver front wheel well lining.

That should take care of 99% of the exterior until I get some OEM Honda aluminum wheels on it.

It just dawned on me. I always hated how the Camaro engine bay looked with all the wires, hoses and etc.......

Until I looked under this hood LOL
