Default What would you upgrade?

If you could choose for free only 5 upgrades from this, what would they be?

Air Filter
Fuel System
Ignition
Exhaust
Camshaft
Valves
Displacement
Pistons
Turbo/Supercharger
Inter Cooler
Oil/Cooling
Flywheel

Edit: The Turbo/Supercharger and Intercooler can count as one upgrade.

Since I'm on the fence about swapping to a V8... mine would be camshaft, valves, turbo, intercooler, and of course.. displacement.

You get one more since the intercooler/turbo count as one upgrade.

Common guys this is serious stuff! Im trying to learn here. GIVE ME YOUR KNOWLEDGE! Wouldn't tacking on stuff like oil/cooling filters exhaust etc. be better because it protects the engine and adds horsepower? i mean if you increase the displacement, and pistons and camshafts and whatnot, thats putting more pressure on other parts right? I feel like that would crap out your car wouldnt it?

I mean if you add one thing you need to add something else to match right? Which now that I think of it, being able to choose only 5 upgrades isn't fair.

anything you do has to have supporting mods to go with it.

what are you wanting out of it is the question.

after you decide which direction you want to go then its easy. getting air in and out of the motor is necessary regardless whether you choose FI or NA.

-Headers and port/polish intake are always good ideas.
-unless your going FI the Fuel delivery system is sufficent. upgrade of the fuel pump would be the first to upgrade though
-of course any cam you choose will need supporting mods to go with it, like springs, retainers, timing chain, hardened pushrods, etc.
-and if you wanted to do more, theres port/polished heads, 5 angle valve jobs, pistons, injectors, NOS, etc

everything needs to agree with your plans. for example you wouldn't only upgrade the injectors. without better air flow in and out it makes no sense.

We all have different ideas about the final product of our cars.
and even though you said "choose for free", cost is always a factor when planning a build. and in most cases the limiting factor. Let us know what your final goal is for your build, because building a 13 sec car and building a fun Daily Driver have to very different setups.

air filter- i already have a k&n, and sine i said turbo it, it would be a different filter anyways

oil- i run full synthetic valvoline now, so that should be fine

oil cooling- just don't dog it for extended periods until you upgrade that too.

a nice air filter and expensive oil and cooler on an otherwise stock motor isn't much fun. but yes you will need supporting mods. but i hardly consider an air filter a priority.

thats my .02

After watching Forrest go thru motors... the biggest issue is keeping the motor supplied with oil. The oil pump mod is a great one to start with.... stay away from nitrous unless you plan on setting it up correctly with the safety switches and such. For turbo... build a forged bottom end... the stock L36 bottom end will only hold together for so long.
