Default Security relearn

I've looked around and haven't really found a straight answer, want to make sure I'm doing this correctly. Anyone have a link to the security relearn procedure? Is it the same on the V6 cars as it is the V8 cars?

There is no security relearn on your car, only on some newer ones. If the VATS resistor value matches, that's all. The BCM has this value permanently stored inside and can't be changed. For what do you need a relearn, a BCM replacement?

There's no relearn for the 99? New PCM, well a tuned PCM.

if you have a new pcm i believe you have to relink the Vats. On my 02 truck its that way. idk what year that started. my 96 camaro doesn't use the pcm for Vats. I have the resistor in the plug and it doesn't care. when i swapped pcms on my truck is was a little different. my truck key is without the chip in the middle. the pcm and vats have to do some hand shake before it will let me crank it. I disabled the VATS to fix it but you can do a VATS relink with the pcm in HPtuners.

idk if that helps or not

Hmm, I don't think I know anyone with hp tuners. Think the dealership could do the VATS relearn? I know it's going to cost me but I will need them to do a CASE relearn anyway.

they probably can do both. and HPtuners would cost probably 100 just for the credits. unless someone were to give away some of their original credits.

There's a dealer about 10 minutes from me, I'm going to call them in the am and see what they say. The only thing that sucks is I'll have to swap the PCM when I get there cause I'm not paying for a tow lol.

that's not too bad of a swap.

Once again, there is nothing to relearn for the pcm except the crank sensor position. There is no coded communication from the BCM to the PCM. It is a simple signal that any 5th grader studying electronics has made. Search for "555 timer VATS". Baker Electronix sells the circuit in a box to eliminate the VATS system, or you can get it programmed OUT of the pcm. See this link for a list of vehicles for which this applies.
http://www.bakerelectronix.com/vats_faq/#doihavepkii
Note that GM trucks stopped using this system in 2000. After 1999, the trucks and many other vehicles used a signal coded method which requires the pcm relearn of the new code. The f-cars are not one of those.

Dustin, not at all, already had the tuned PCM in but had to take it out cause the car wouldn't start. Which since you know so much about this Gary, why wouldn't the car start on the tuned PCM? If it's not a VATS issue since apparently that's not a system in the car, what's causing it to not even crank? Needs a CASE relearn?
