Stuff is cleaning up fairly well. Once I recover from a recent neck injury, I'll get the crank in. There isn't much info on engine assembly for this. It appears to me that I have to install the rods before I bolt down the mains. Crazy!!!

Thank you! These guys have me worried about the rear main seal though...I'm actually kinda thinking of installing the seal with the crank. Any ideas?

The Camaro pilot bushing fits perfectly!
I'm still not sure about that rear main seal...

Yeah man, this thing is crazy! My machinist wasn't surprised when I told him. I guess he's seen that before. lol

Thanks for the words of encouragement! It's a daunting assembly.

I'm afraid of stripping the threads out of the aluminum block when I torque down the mains... ONE spec sheet (Alldata?) calls for 15 ft lbs + 70 degrees

That's actually the only spec I can find. The Chilton manual for the donor car is lacking in the engine rebuilding section. No procedure or torque specs for rod caps. They're forged-powder-metal rods with cracked caps.

(alldata?) spec'd 30 ft lbs, back to zero, then 22 ft lbs + 110degrees for the caps.
I split it up into 22 lb ft + 60 degrees + 50 degrees cuz I wanted three tightening passes. Fingers crossed!
Only one rod tightened so far. Engine still turns...

Trying to use a cheap angle gauge sucks. Wish I had the grand to afford that Snap On digital torque + angle ratchet.
